Climate Past and Future

Abstract

Very few scientific reports receive as much public attention as the IPCC-Report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). The assessment report of the UN's global scientific body on climate change regularly receives worldwide attention. Such was the case for the Fourth Assessment Report of which the first part was published at the beginning of February. Like the previous reports, it provides an up-to-date assessment of the current state of knowledge on the extent and causes of climatic change. Global warming is now assessed to be “unequivocal”, and if the CO2 emissions continue at current levels or above, many changes in the climate system will be induced that will very likely be larger than those observed during the 20th century.
