Title

The Search for Gravitational Waves with Advanced LIGO

Abstract

100 years ago, Einstein showed that matter and energy’s gyrations are continuously broadcast throughout the universe — in the form of gravitational waves, or ripples in the underlying geometry of space and time. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) has successfully completed a major upgrade. Advanced LIGO started its first observational run in September 2015 with a sensitivity far surpassing its predecessors.
