Title
The Amazing Start of Gravitational Wave Astronomy
Abstract
The detection by LIGO of a burst of gravitational waves from two merging black holes opened the field of gravitational wave astronomy in a spectacular way. Subsequent detections have verified that the population of binary black holes in the Universe is both large and involves more massive objects than had previously been expected. I will review the science we now have and our expectations and challenges as this field expands, with more detectors and into new frequency bands.
